RESEARCH
Terry's research is focused on the problem of pain and he is devoted to the search for effective non-pharmacological methods of reducing or eliminating it. Of particular intrigue for Terry are the social influences on pain, phenomena such as placebo and nocebo effects, and hypnosis. He is convinced that these and other psychosocial systems provide tantalizing clues about the brain's natural/endogenous mechanisms for analgesia, and more importantly, hopes that by understanding them we will be able to to exploit these mechanisms to provide pain relief and an improved life for millions.
