In the fall of 2006, the Faculty of Arts and Science instituted a waiting list feature on ROSI (Repository of Student Information). When a course is full, a waiting list enables the student to "line up" for a space that might become available. The waiting list is first-come, first-serve so that when someone drops the course the first person on the waiting list will be automatically enrolled.
Students will be notified of their enrolment via email to their UTORmail account, however, if a student is on a waitlist (s)he is expected to check their ROSI account on the SWS on a regular basis. Students without a UTORmail account will not be notified. There are no fees associated with a waitlist, however, once the student becomes enrolled (s)he will be charged the appropriate fee for the course.
Labs and Seminars
Within the Dept. of Psychology, all 100-, 200-, and 300-level courses will have the waiting list feature available to students on the SWS. However, with 300-level labs and 400-level seminars, the procedure is different. During the first round of enrolment in the summer when priorities have not been dropped from courses, labs and seminars are only open to PSY Specialists and Research Specialists. Once the priorities have been dropped, anyone who has all of the prerequisites for a lab or seminar can enrol in them through the department. If the requested course is full, though, the student may put his/her name on a "paper" waiting list maintained by the Undergraduate Administrator. The waiting list begins only when the priorities have been dropped on these courses and students may request to be put on the waiting list through the department but not on the SWS.
Waiting lists for labs and seminars, however, are not on a first-come, first-serve basis. The sequence by which students are enrolled has to do with subject POSt, year-level, and prerequisites. For example, a PSY Major student might be first on the waiting list for PSY 420H1F, however, if a 4th-year PSY Specialist needs to enrol in it for program completion and graduation then the Major does not have precedence over the Specialist. Please note that if you are already enrolled in a lab and/or seminar(s) but you want to change to a different one, those who are not enrolled in ANY will get priority over you.
To be placed on a waiting list for a lab or seminar, please send an email to the Undergraduate Administrator with the following information: your full name; your student ID #; your email address and phone number; your PSY subject POSt; your year-level; and the course you desire. Please make sure that you have the necessary prerequisites for the course before making your request.
Once a space in your desired course becomes available and you are next in line, the Undergraduate Administrator will add this course to your timetable. This addition may occur at any time up to and including the last date to add classes. It is your responsibility to check on your enrolment on the SWS (ROSI) and in order to receive a full refund you will have to withdraw from this course by the listed date on the refund schedule for the current year (please see your College Registrar’s Office for more details on drop dates and refunds).
In order to drop any lab or seminar, you must request this via email to the Undergraduate Administrator. [Note: The Undergraduate Administrator will not provide any information regarding your position on the waiting list at any time].
