Students in the Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education who want to complete a PSY Minor or Major program alongside their BKin degree, must first meet the minimum admission requirements before making a request through their Office of the Registrar. The admission and completion requirements for both the PSY Minor and Major programs are as follows:
Minor Program
Admission requirements:
- Completion of PSY100H1
- Min. of Gr. 12 Calculus (college/university-level also accepted)
- Min. of Gr. 12 Biology (college/university-level also accepted)
- PSY201H1 (or equivalent course in statistics – KPE291H1, for example), plus at least 1.0 credit in PSY at the 200-level (taken from the PSY210H1 – PSY290H1 series) with an average of 70% across all three courses. If more than two PSY 200-levels have been completed, the two with the highest grades will be used. KPE courses, such as KPE220H1, cannot be used for admission.
Then, to complete the PSY Minor, students must have the following (4.0 credits):
- PSY100H1 (NOTE: We will also accept PSY100Y5 from UTM, or both of PSYA01H3 and PSYA02H3 together from UTSC)
- Stats (KPE291H1)
- 1.0 credit from PSY210H1/ PSY220H1/ PSY230H1/ PSY240H1/ PSY260H1/ PSY270H1/ PSY280H1/ PSY290H1 (NOTE: HMB200H1 cannot be used in place of PSY290H1)
- 1.0 credit in PSY at the 300/400-level from Group 1 (any Cluster, excluding PSY304Y1, PSY306Y0, PSY399H1, PSY399Y1, PSY405H1, PSY406H1, PSY405Y1, and PSY406Y1)
- 1.0 credit from either PSY or approved KPE courses (please see list below) or any of our Group 2 courses
*A total of 1.5 credits from KPE can be used for the Minor (0.5 stats + 1.0).
Major Program
Admission requirements:
- Completion of PSY100H1
- Min. of Gr. 12 Calculus (college/university-level also accepted)
- Min. of Gr. 12 Biology (college/university-level also accepted)
- PSY201H1 (or equivalent course in statistics – KPE291H1, for example), plus at least 1.0 credit in PSY at the 200-level (taken from the PSY210H1 – PSY290H1 series) with an average of 73% across all three courses. If more than two PSY 200-levels have been completed, the two with the highest grades will be used. KPE courses, such as KPE220H1, cannot be used for admission.
Then, to complete the PSY Major, students must have the following (7.0 credits):
- PSY100H1 (NOTE: We will also accept PSY100Y5 from UTM, or both of PSYA01H3 and PSYA02H3 together from UTSC)
- Stats (KPE291H1)
- 1.0 credit (from Cluster A) PSY210H1, PSY220H1, PSY230H1, PSY240H1
- 1.0 credit (from Cluster B) PSY260H1, PSY270H1, PSY280H1, PSY290H1 (NOTE: HMB200H1 cannot be used in place of PSY290H1)
- 0.5 credit in PSY at the 300/400-level from Group 1 in Cluster A
- 0.5 credit in PSY at the 300/400-level from Group 1 in Cluster B
- 1.0 credit in PSY at the 300/400-level from Group 1 (any Cluster)
- 0.5 credit in PSY at the 400-level from Group 1 (any Cluster)
- 1.5 credits from either PSY or approved KPE courses (please see list below) or any of our Group 2 courses
*A total of 2.0 credits from KPE can be used for the Major (0.5 stats + 1.5).
NOTE: Psychology courses taken at UTM or UTSC will be accepted as PSY course requirements for both the Minor and the Major.
