Biography :

Dr. Wood is an Associate Professor, Teaching Stream in the Psychology Department at the University of Toronto. She attended UC Berkeley on a Regents’ Scholarship, completing her BA in Classical Languages, with a minor in Music. She also spent her junior year abroad at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Dr. Wood completed her PhD on the effects of stimulants on learning and memory at UC San Diego, supported by an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, as well as an NIH NRSA for Individual Predoctoral Fellows. She then completed four years of postdoctoral training at Columbia University, supported by an NIH T32 Research Training Grant.

Dr. Wood teaches undergraduate courses in the Brain and Behaviour area of the department. She is pursuing several lines of inquiry related to the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). Currently, she blends her interests in psychopharmacology, learning, and pedagogy by investigating the use of pharmacological compounds by university students for the purpose of cognitive enhancement.

Her career path has been somewhat circuitous, with employment ranging from programming at a start-up to street outreach at a homeless shelter for teenagers; she is therefore interested in helping undergraduates begin to explore their own career paths. Dr. Wood strives to help them frame the skills they learn at U of T in the context of a range of career options.
