Prerequisites
Psychology (PSY) course prerequisites follow a logical progression to ensure students are adequately prepared. For example:
- PSY312H1 – Cognitive Development requires:
- PSY210H1 – Introduction to Development
- All 300/400-level PSY courses require PSY201H1 – Statistics I.
Important Notes:
- PSY courses do not have co-requisites.
- Instructors rely on students having the required background knowledge.
- Students must meet all prerequisites before enrolling. Failure to do so may result in removal from the course at any time during the academic year.
- Equivalent transfer credits from other institutions may be accepted.
Refer to the current Faculty of Arts & Science Calendar for detailed course listings and prerequisites. It is your responsibility to verify prerequisites before enrolling.
Waivers
Prerequisite waivers or permission to take courses without the exact prerequisite are rare and granted only in exceptional cases, such as:
- Extensive professional experience in the course’s subject area.
- Completion of a similar or identical course at another UofT campus or institution.
Waivers will not be granted for reasons such as:
- Needing the course to graduate or apply to grad school
- Scheduling conflicts
- Personal interest
- Career goals
- Admiration for the instructor
- High GPA or confidence in handling the course material
Do not enrol in a course before receiving a waiver.
