The Social Cognitive Science and SocialAI lab seeks to illuminate the cognitive processes that underlie social judgments and behaviour. Specifically, we seek to understand how people navigate fundamental aspects of cooperation and competition within and between social groups – from learning about our environments to developing roles within groups and successfully predicting others’ behaviours to navigating the tensions that can undermine social function and stability. To do so, our lab develops deep neural networks and other computational models that integrate artificial intelligence with cutting-edge, multi-level approaches from neuroscience, psychology, sociology, history, and cultural anthropology.
